Street vending is a staple of the culture and history of Los Angeles. It is estimated that there are over 10,000 street vendors servicing our city who offer goods, crafts and food that are unique to different cultures. These vendors are entrepreneurs who operate outside of the formal economy and are therefore lacking recognition and support. This has left them vulnerable to discrimination, fines and arrests. Our hope is to fight for a comprehensive policy that would open the streets by allowing more than two per block, so that they can have the opportunity to earn an honest living and support their families. Additionally, we would like an inclusive permit system implemented and to reduce the hefty fines that street vendors face when they are cited by the city. Ultimately, we would like to see Street Vendors become legally recognized on sidewalks in Los Angeles, and in specialized locations, such as parks.

By signing our petition, your voices join their voices, and together the voiceless can be heard.
