The Municipality of Halifax is obviously biased when it comes to this case. There should be an internal and external audit of then entire handling of this case and all members of the City of Halifax who have participated in this cased should have their conduct reviewed. The prosecutor of the municipality should be dismissed and and replaced with a non-biased external person from another jurisdiction. Immediate review and ultimate release of this dog should occur based on the evidence provided by the trainer and veterinarian staff. Once released, the owner and dog should immediately leave the City of Halifax and most likely this Province as I feel that the City staff would ultimately seek retribution against both.

If two children were to fight at a park would the police seize the children and put a human being through what Brindi is forced to go through? The answer is no. Animals have emotions, they can feel things the same exact way that a child would. I think most people would agree with me saying that animals are just a different shape or type of child.

I've had pit bulls all my life, dogs do sometimes Scruffel. But if you take that dog away for a long time as you did the for 8 years of course that dogs going to have some issues around everyone. And it can all be fixed if treated right and percautions are made. For example a mussel if they ever go for a walk. And it's completely wrong to take people's words on the dog, unless there is evidence that the dog injured another dog badly there is no reason for it to be taken away. As I said earlier I had pit bulls for my whole life. Baby girl and Zeak brother and sister, sweetest dogs ever but have gotten in a little Scruffel here and there cause they feel treatened. Which is an animals instinct to protect its self which again can be fixed. And I have had my neighbors call the cops because they feel treatened just cause their pit bulls and they think my dogs are gonna just attack there's out of no where. They just wanted my dogs to be put down. So don't take the word from other people. And if that dog has a proper mussel for when they go on walks everything would be perfectly fine and this women would get the love of her life back! The only thing she has ever had!

Had this been a fight between two men and one was left with a few scratches, the man would, at worse, been in prison for a couple of months. Dogs fight, it happens, it's normal. I cannot comprehend how this would happen, it seems to me that there should be far more important things this town should be concentrating on. It's an embarrassment for Halifax. The details of the event clearly show animal cruelty from the couple who complained about Brindi, I see no charges being pressed against them? These two companions deserve to be reunited. It's almost Christmas, stop the spite, stop the cruelty, let it go and show a bit of compassion and humanity.

The dog misbehaved years ago, and I understand committed the same offense twice. My suggestion and plea to you is that you release the dog, with restrictions, to her owner. The dog shoukd have to wear a bright collar saying "dangerous" or "vicious" which she really is neither, but for the sake of preventing another dog inndif fight. The dog shoukd always have to wear a leash and be muzzled when outside of the owners home. If the owner had a yard, the dog shoukd be confined to staying in the home and yard of the owner, with the exception of receiving veterinary care. This way the community has warning that the possibility of the dog biting their dog exists. Even though there were no injuries sustained to the dog that was "attacked". This dog has never bit a person, and has never cause any sort of serious damage. It is ridiculous to continue to separate them, and keep this dog in a cell for any longer. Both owner and dog are in poor health. It is the last wish the dogs owner has to have her dog home with her. They've done their time, the owner has continued this battle she will not cease. I'm pleading with you to let her be released to her owner with restrictions. Then it's a win win. If the dog commits the same offense again, after all the punishment they've endured, after all the restrictions set in place, then you will have to figure out a permanent sentence for this dog. There are also many animals behavior rehabilitation centers, she could be ordered to have to undergo training as another precaution.

How can you guys call yourselves a Humane Animal Control place. Keeping an animal locked up for 8 years is a disgrace. What happened to the other dogs that were in these "tussles", were they locked up? How do you know it wasn't that animal that wasn't the aggressor. It sounds like the owners of the other dog were the aggressors in all of this even kicking the dog, even admitting to stalking them all summer long-show some compassion here and hold the owners of the other dog accountable for their actions of be the instigators in this. Let the dog go home to her owner who is ill herself and let this dog who is ill have some dignity before she dies. Be Humane as the title in your agency suggests you are. It has been proven that Brindi is not "dog aggressive" is friendly and gentle. What is it that you have against this poor animal that can't even defend itself against you? Heck you don't even let her owner see her, why? She isn't aggressive, so what is really behind this in-humane treatment of this animal-petty revenge?

This story is horrendous........dogs "fight" between themselves all the time.....unfortunately, just like humans there are those like themselves they don't like....it is their natural instinct to react in the manner that is described here... Dogs get in scuffles all the time. You cannot expect a dog to get along with every other dog they meet, you don't expect it from people. I hate to think about the effect this incident has had on both dog and owner. Just let her come home, she deserves to be with her owner who clearly loves her so much. I own a dog, she's soft as anything, scared of cats and plastic bags, she's gotten into scuffles before, she is an animal, that's how they let one another know something's wrong. Locking Brindi up will only serve to make her less sure of other dogs and more likely to snap.

Incarcerating a dog for 7 years is animal cruelty. Consider the confinement 'time served' and release the dog to her owner. Otherwise, foster her outside of Halifax until the legal matter can be resolved. This story is unimaginably heartbreaking and does not reflect well on the city of Halifax and the officials involved.

I own a dog who is the same way. He's awkward around other dogs, and occasionally gets into scuffles with them. He's been attacked before as a puppy, and nothing we do has helped him get over his weariness. Does he fight with all dogs? No. Can he? Sure. Dogs are much like humans, they don't get along with everyone. No dog should be punished for not getting along with another dog. The owner needs to keep her dog away from specific dogs, but neither needs to suffer through this sadistic ploy.

I empathize with Francesca on a very deep level. I too am ill and just lost my mother. Not married and no children except for my cat, Pearl, who I rescued from euthanization eight years ago when I was a volunteer at the Humane Society in my town. Please let them be reunited. Animals dislike each other sometimes just like humans do. As long as she is leashed or fenced in when outdoors, there should be no further problems. Perhaps a hardware store in your town could donate fencing for Francesca's yard? I know Pearl has been one of my few joys since losing my mom. And she's a great nurse cat :) Please bring these two back together. You can tell Brindi loves her mom in the pictures shown. They need to be back together. This punishment is way beyond what was necessary, from the details in the article. Six years in dog prison? Just plain cruel.

Ive owned dogs all my life and i am strongly against humans puting down animals.. An animal is an animal and acts as such. If an animal reacts in an aggressive nature, it is his or her instinct in self defense. Animals cannot speak, therefore humans need to be intelligent enough to understand what the animal is rying to say by its body language and stance. very few people are qualified to "read" an animal.
