It has come to my attention over the past few years that George Whittell High School has been neglected as far as getting the funds it needs to operate correctly. Douglas County isn't dispersing it's money as well as it should be. Whittell High might be a smaller school, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be recognized as much as a bigger school would.
In a nutshell, if Whittell get's enough money for ONE MORE teacher, then they will be able to function more efficiently. Allowing them to be able to juggle the near impossible task of teaching grades 7-12 and incorporating the proper break / lunch times.
One more teacher would allow them to continue to run two separate bell schedules. Also,
music only happens three periods a day, art, one(of two) PE teachers
are part time, and culinary arts is part time. That's pretty much it for
electives.
My hope is to get enough signatures so it can be made aware that Whittell High School matters. That they should be able to disperse the budget appropriately so this next generation can have the same awesome experience we had growing up in Lake Tahoe.
Seeing this kind of traction is exhausting but it keeps me moving because I know we are right about this. The people in charge have ignored these hallways for too long and this momentum forces them to look our way.

I'm sorry, I didn't see in the petition anywhere critizing other district schools. And why are the 9th graders at Douglas any more important than our students at Whittell or Zephyr Cove? The fact is our schools at the lake have needed improvement for years. Our children should be provided the same opportunities as any of the other schools in the district.

I am going to sign petition however please get your facts correct. The money used to remodel DHS can NOT BE USED TO PAY FOR A TEACHER, there are two different funds. The remodel was necessary to accommodate the 9th graders.
I believe that Whittell NEEDS to keep the Middle School separate and needs that teacher however we do not need to criticize the real needs of the other schools. Elections have consequences, less money for education is one of the consequences of the 2014. DCSD has made a damn good effort however I agree with the petition to bring in one more teacher to Whittell, but please get your facts right on the ask. We will be more successful in the final results.

The developmental level/needs (emotional, psychological, spiritual) of middle school age students significantly vary from those of older high school students. Research data support the significant differences. Two separate bell schedules should be maintained.

This district managed to fund KMS at one point, and yes, I do know it has been closed for a while, which school did those funds get rolled into, because I am sure Whittell did not get all the funds that it took to run KMS.... These kids are getting robbed......

Please do everything you can to keep Whittell functioning at the highest level possible. Three of our five sons graduated from this fantastic school.
