As a Pepperdine student I had the pleasure of knowing both Maria and her son. I have known her for 10 years now and I have known her son just as long. They played an influential role in my ability to excel while abroad in Argentina. To this day, I still visit her and my friends she introduced me to in Buenos Aires. She changed my life and as a Pepperdine employee she deserves the same benefits as the rest of the faculty.

This faculty member should have the same opportunities as everyone else for her, and her family. If her son was accept on his own ability, his country of orgin should not diminish that privilege.

As a former Pepperdine student in the Buenos Aires program, I remember Maria was extremely helpful and welcoming. It would only be fair to give the same opportunity to those abroad as those who live in Malibu.

Throughout my years at Pepperdine, I have learned that equality amongst all is the one of the most valuable qualities an environment can have. There were several events during my years that challenged this notion, but it brought the community together as more and more members realized that some people have to work harder for something they shouldn't be challenged with in the first place. Maria is not only part of the Pepperdine family but she is a great contributor to it!

During my time in Buenos Aires, I worked very closely with Maria. She made me and all our program feel safe at home in a completely foreign place. She fought for us and rallied behind us with passion and it is only fitting that we and Pepperdine do the same for her son.

Honestly this disturbs me so much. I knew this institution was hypocritical and ass-backwards, but this is absolutely ridiculous. So much for being a "Christian" school huh?

If it weren't for Maria, I would not have enjoyed my abroad experience as much as I did. She helped me assimilate to the culture and learn about the country while making sure I was comfortable. I'm disappointed in Pepperdine for denying this to Joaquin, her son, who has also participated in multiple service activities with Pepperdine students.
