I was thinking the other day about how unfair it was that I was asked to keep my skirt below my knees when I was at school. It's sad that this is still an issue today. The message it gave me when I was young was that I needed to cover up if I wanted to be respected - this was a harmful message that took time to unlearn. I understand there's nuance to this campaign but I'm so glad these girls are fighting to be respected whatever they choose to wear!

What school wears long skirts in the 21st century! Why should girls have to change their dress style because boys haven’t been taught how to behave.

I can’t help but feel concerned about the direction the school is taking with this new rule. It will be interesting to see how educating boys more effectively will play out. With the introduction of Yondr pouches, I anticipate that this might only increase the existing tension between students and the administration. It seems like there’s a lot of room for improvement, and I hope the future brings a better understanding between everyone involved.

This is a regressive response to an issue. Boys needs to be educated about correct behaviour. The message this uniform change sends is dangerous- boys are not responsible for their behaviour - it's the fault of the girls. It reinforces the dangerous idea that it's a girl's fault for dressing in a way that prompts a certain response. This could lead to girls feeling shame if assaulted in future (they deserved it, due to their clothing choice), and boys not taking responsibility for their behaviour. The school must direct change towards those who need it, not shift blame onto women for male misdemeanours.

I have an older sister who told me about this and if anything they should be punishing the yr 10 boys not the harmless girls

This is a shockingly sexist idea. When did it become acceptable to tell girls/women that they need to cover their entire bodies. Why are we holding girls responsible for male reactions. Why aren't we educating our boys to do better.

This is an outrage and actually discriminatory - so much for the empowerment of girls! We must stand firm and take action - contact Bristol City Council. Also, Cotham, you are losing the support of children and parents on this one - such a shame, will never feel the same about/support the school again!
