Backcountrydot.com - Please remove all lawsuits you have filed and find a way to compensate the companies you pursued so vehemently for their costs and wasted time defending your greed. Until you do, I will never shop with you and will tell everyone I am able to do the same. We'll give you a second chance - but only after you do the right thing and end your shameful practices against small businesses and non-profits who had zero impact upon your business to begin with.

Just do what's right and honor the values of the outdoor community. We have developed and nurtured a set of ethics to steward the outdoors and take care of each other, and we expect members to behave accordingly. Set the example.

My boyfriends company was attacked and driven to let go of his entire company - website, social media and products by being bullied by this company. I sign this petition with heart, soul and support for all the small businesses that are affected by this company.

Never has a company so missed the point. We who live in the backcountry have a connection to nature and those who love it. Going after anyone in the community is unacceptable. I will not buy from backcountry OR any of the brands that allow their products to be sold on their website until the drop all lawsuits, reimburse the small businesses that the have unduly burdened and release the name "Backcountry" into the public domain. The CEO resigning would also be a good start

I am unclear how the Company and its Law Firm (or individual attorneys of Firm) came to agreement as to the authorized legal representation untaken in these last years (+/-?).
Who 'informed whoever' that IPLA representation would mean vast expenditures for a series of aggressive, predatory lawsuits, for which 'victory' would come from proof of consumer confusion ~ a "dot com retailer of many sport brands" was losing sales or causing confusion: by Backcountry Babes (an avalanche school(?)), or a company's model of ski(!!).
My background includes seven proud years at the World Intellectual Property Organization, where a first assignment regarded the nexus of uncoordinated national law(s), international internet presence, and cybersquatting disputes. The work done internationally, from 1996-1998, then reformatted in 1998 (US Commerce Department White Paper on ICANN formation), created the competitive Registrar system, and implemented WIPO Guidelines for Domain Name Disputes.
Ford Motors bought Volvo, and subsequently unleashed its legal hounds, to persecute a very large number of established Volvo sites not owned by Volvo of Sweden, and shut them down by overbearing legal hostilities.
Obviously trademark law creates and fosters good will: overzealousness in protection of a mark, as Ford did two decades ago, and IPLA recently undertook to its client's alleged advantage, has worked against it, so far.
They must make whole the industry partners they suppressed.

The Backcountry belongs to everyone. You over stepped, very bad move.
Threatening other companies and organizations using the term backcountry may be catastrophic.

Using the copyright laws to try to "own" a concept is a crime against us all. It is theivery and a prime example of corporate GEEED. May the backcountry.com business fail so that you can learn from failure and strive to thrive honestly.

I love being in the back country, hiking, camping, exploring the "backcountry" with my camera. The words back country or backcountry have been used by the public for generations, long before your company, you do not own that word.
