A friend of mine, Justin Taylor, is being oppressed by the tyrannical rule of his parents. Ruling with an iron fist, they force him to complete every task to absolute perfection. This results in unwarranted groundings as well as very limited access to technology and social activities.

Will you sign and assist Justin in breaking free of this cruel, abusive dictatorship? Or will you simply ignore the issue entirely and let him suffer in silence? It's your choice, but if you choose not to sign you're a despicable human being and should be disgusted with yourself.

Justin's tyrannical parents are actually pretty nice and his chores are very few and simplistic (sweeping one floor, taking out the trash, and dinner dishes three nights a week). He has limited electronics time due to the fact that he struggles to do his homework and do his chores, and has a hard time with respecting his parents and their time. On top of that, his time restrictions come on the recommendation of 2 different doctors. When it is shown he can handle keeping his grades up and doing his very easy and minimal chores time restrictions will be re-evaluated. As is true with every situation, one should know all sides of a story before judging.

WHen teenagers complain about their lives and their parents, they often leave out the reasons behind the rules and restrictions. I understand your point of view, and Justin's restrictions are not as tight on weekends or during breaks or the summer etc. My point is, Justin knows the reasons for his restrictions, and in true teenage fashion, he is not bothering to share the other side of the story and why he has those restrictions. While they may seem unfair to his friends, there are very good reasons behind them that are between his dad, Justin and I. Also, 9 times out of 10 he usually is in fact on for more than an hour most of the time. I also should add that I appreciate your loyalty to him, but putting down his parents and the rules they have in their household is not a great thing to do. It lacks respect to adults and to our family.

Are you sure perfection is the right word? Could it simply be just not speeding through things and paying attention to the task at hand? No one is perfect, but one should respect himself enough to do his (or her) best with every task (no matter how menial) given to them, paying attention to detail and taking pride in a job well done. There is nothing wrong with an adult who busts tail all day to provide for their children wanting a little help with the messes the children/teenagers help to create.

I'm not judging. In fact, I already knew they weren't any sort of torturous, strenuous chores. I just figured I'd put this here for Justin because he feels as if he's really limited (plus the fact I'd definitely appreciate being able to talk to him longer). That's why I wasn't exactly secretive in the way I shared it, what with it being on everybody's walls. But hey, we reached the goal of 10. I feel very accomplished.

It is sad knowing that we live in a world where a child only has access to one hour on the computer a day.
