Yes this is so important for everyone to have access to wifi in their rooms & at the hospital cafes, not only for all patients of all ages but also for the family member of a patient that are having to stay in hospital with them 24/7 for long periods of time.
As a Mama who has spent 2.5 months in the NICU with my deathly ill new born and then later when my child was a bit older we spent weeks upon weeks & months upon months back at hospital in isolation in a hospital room with my little baby(at Children’s hospital in Van) and if we hadn’t had free access to wifi I would have gone crazy & felt even more sad & isolated!! And yes I did bring books with me & other things to amuse myself in the quiet times but still nothing beats having access to wifi to help in the times you are stuck in hospital & scared!
It truly is so isolating, lonely & I needed to be able to use my tablet to keep in touch threw video chats with my family(my other children & husband) & also with my family & friends that are far away for daily support.
So for those reasons & also in general to be able to surf the web for example for info when I needed to learn about something in reference to what my baby was in hospital for to help calm my mind etc & in general for helping me to stay in touch online so I wasn’t feeling so isolated & sad...yes having access to wifi is incredibly important to all patients & family members who have to stay with them in hospital!!
I was so sad to learn that here on the island that wifi isn’t available for paitents & their family members staying in hospital with them...this has made me feel so sad & also brought up some anxiety & I’m hoping my young child & I don’t have to ever stay at any of the hospitals on island partly cuz we are so done with hospitals of course & want to stay away from being admitted but also cuz with no wifi (& this might sound silly to some) but it really is a life saver for those of us who are having to be in a room with our young

Last year I had a $350 bill for using my iPhone over 3 weeks without a plan. Everyone else in the hospital except the patients who are the real customers has wifi for their use-staff etc which is paid for by tax money. Why can't patients have free wifi. The ripoff TV rental prices are atrocious.

I visit the hospital regularly and often rely on wifi to contact people to bring me food, provide phone numbers, bring me clothing and let people know I am safe. Starbucks offers free wifi without a purchase, we pay for our health care via taxes and the wifi should be free.

when I am stuck in a hospital it would be so helpful to be able to connect with family, none of them live near me would be nice laying in a room to be able to connect with them

Thank you for working on this important topic. I tried to get free internet for Cairnsmore Place, possibly even more needed than hospitals (but still VIHA), & got stalled at every turn.

It is a shame that hospitals do not have Wifi - if they can put a system in a mall or restaurant, why not a similar system where people are literally stuck there for hours.

I've been wondering about this very thing myself.
