The decision-making process has been too opaque and we need to hear the justifications for this change. Was there a broad consultation sought for this? It is imperative that the Commission takes this petition seriously. After this affects ALL of us dancers who are committed to the art!

At 45, I think I'm more than old enough to decide how to dress myself & bitterly resent being told what I can or cannot wear! Let me decide for myself what I wear, be it socls or tights!

Adult dancers should be able to make their own choise.

We are old enough to know, if our legs look better in thights or not. Even with a black background and a black floor Judges can't really see the steps, and that's really worst case for dancers if they loosing points. So free choice is the answer!!

Very silly rule, totally support the petition. Besides of unnecessary leg warmth created and costume integrity issues, hard shoes can not fit the same way with tights and socks (I experience that myself), what REALLY affects the performance.

Why has age got anything to do with bare legs vs no bare legs? I seriously do not get it. Personally I think it can be much harder to see the small details in a step when everything is black ie tights, shoes etc. Also, do we really have to be "ashamed" of our legs just because we're not 18 anymore? Free choice is the answer!

It should be up to the dancer as they are a responsible adult.

Does it have any sense? Honestly, during my competitive career I have found that there are so many stupid rules and bans around clothing at the competition. I think that there are much more serious problems around competitive irish dancing that way of clothing should be the last one solved on the check list. It should be completely up to dancer what to wear. It is not abou dresses. It is about dancing...

Adult dancers work just as hard as younger dancers to improve and be competitive. There is simply no legitimate reason for this rule and it serves no purpose other than to place additional restrictions on adults.

It should be a dancers decision to wear tights or not . My sisters dresses cost a fortune and personally I think tights take the look away. Tights also make her feel uncomfortable and slip in shoes .

i think dancers should have the say in weather they want to wear tights or not because some people might not feel comfortable dancing in tights and prefer the sock.

Each dancer should have the right to choose the best option for him or her. Irish dancers earn their muscles; they don't need to be hidden!

Can´t agree more. What is gonna be next? Ladies over some age will have to cover their faces or what?

It's just sad all the treatment to not championship "and overs" dancers .....

Hard for dancers competiting in both - intermediate and open. Shoe problems and wearing tights many hours before championships is the death for well-tanned legs

I have danced for nearly 12 years now and am proud of the way my legs look. My inability to buy shorts and jeans in my own size is a blessing, it means I am a strong and capable dancer despite being an &O age group. By asking me to wear tights, you're telling me that those 12 years of building strength are less important than hiding my legs if someone is offended by my 19 year old physique.

I absolutely agree why does it even matter?

I am over 35 (previous rule for wearing black tights apparently was over 35) and so happy that most adult dancers now realize how it feels when you have to wear those black tights.on a black stage next to all those sparkling poodle socks competitors since a lot of categories for adults are often combined. Hopefully the rule will be dropped for everyone :-)
