The gates are finally back open for the public. Principal Podhorsky and the board realized they could not keep locking us out of our own neighborhood track. Keep treating the facility with respect so we never have to fight this battle again.

Dear Principal Podhorsky and San Diego Unified Schools Board,

I support the return of free access to the track and field at La Jolla High School, when not in use by the school. The facility is a vital La Jolla community asset that enhances our health, safety, and property values. Post rules and allow us, as community users, to ensure they are enforced.

Principal Podhorsky and the school board have decided that our community is an inconvenience they can just lock out. They think they can ignore us behind closed gates but the mounting pressure is starting to get under their skin.

The massive surge of support proves that the community is finished with Principal Podhorsky locking us out of our own neighborhood track. This momentum shows that the powers at San Diego Unified can no longer ignore our demands for open access.

We love to take our children to run on the track, when not in use by the high school. It's a wonderful place to have time together as a family and we miss having access.

I live next to the field. I can lock up at night which is when the field and grounds get abused. Give neighbors a chance!

As a native La Jollan and founding member of the LJHS Alumni Association, your policy of restricted use discriminates against both residents and alumni. SDUSD is a PUBLIC school system that is open to all. La Jolla High is not a private school.

We put up with construction noise for 1 1/2 years, and we put up continuously with field noise and students who trash our sidewalks. Access to the track is a minimal payback.

I'm hearing impaired/deaf, and find it unsafe to run on the sidewalks and streets of La Jolla as I've been hit by a car twice since the high school principle has closed the track to the community. Please open the track to help all of us, especially the hearing and visually impaired!

I've been paying for and supporting public schools in La Jolla for more than 30 years even though I have zero kids. No better way to erode support than to close off this facility to the very people who have helped to build it.

This is the first place I have ever lived where a public high school’s track & field were not available to the public when not in use by the school. They state they feel they can do this because its renovations came from a proposition’s funds, not general school tax. However, where did the district get those funds for the propositions, if not the public? The public still continues to pay general school taxes, so unless La Jolla becomes a private school— the track needs to be reopened for public use.

Great facility that should be available for the public good. Shouldn't be that difficult to open the gates and let people use it. I don't know exactly when it became a thing to lock up publicly funded facilities like this but I think it is a shame.
