The Natural Gas industry is growing exponentially to satisfy America's energy needs, however the current means of obtaining the gas poses too great of environmental harm to groundwater supplies, shale deposits underground, and the air quality of the area. Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking) involves injecting hundreds of pounds of water and chemicals into underground shale deposits. These sights are not limited to one geographic area but occur across the U.S. Fracking is currently the cheapest means of drilling for natural gas. Oil and Natural Gas companies use a loophole from a 2008 EPA study allowing them to not disclose what chemicals are being pumped underground as well as the number "frack" sites operated. Until all long term effects are understood and addressed federal oversight is needed.Companies will be required to disclose all fluids used in the Fracking process as well as follow Federal guidelines to prevent pollution.
