A fowl Ordinance has been proposed to raise and care for foul with in the city of Monmouth. Monmouth is the only local municipality that restricts fowl within its city limits, Galesburg, Bloomington, Decatur and even City of Chicago permit the practice.

  • up to 4 fowl per parcel of property
  • Roosters are not permitted
  • must be permitted by the city
  • fowl must be provided with cover, predator resistant housing
  • daylight hours, fowl must have access to outdoor enclosure adequately fenced
  • no nuisance smells, feed stored in rodent proof containers, noise kept to a minimum and with 5 feet of property line

ive been talking to people all over town and so many of you are ready to start keeping hens in your own backyards just like everyone does in the surrounding cities. im spending my time pulling together all the safety requirements so the city council has zero excuses to say no when we finally sit down with them.

im honestly kind of stunned by the response to this. i really didnt think this many people would get behind backyard chickens but here we are and it feels like we might actually get somewhere with the city council.

Ridiculous that we are behind Galesburg on this. Let us have our chickens already.

My kids really want to learn where eggs come from and this is the perfect way to do it.
