Few are the places in our rural area where young people can afford to have fun and stay out of trouble - the golf course at Fort Ridgely is important!!! PLEASE help us keep it open!! Our 4 kids and many of their friends have played on this course for years - they do NOT want to see it close, and neither do other adults living in the area or regular visitors to our state park. Each year more visitors discover this unique golf course too. We do not understand why a few people want to reduce this and other recreational aspects of the park and only promote its historical aspect. This park is special because of the variety it offers. Also the golfing and other activities at the Fort that promote a healthy lifestyle are the kind that Americans are looking for and need. PLEASE support maintaining the golf course and all other features of Fort Ridgely State Park.

Camped at Fort Ridgely for the first time last year. Really enjoyed the golf course, one of the best maintained I have played. Made reservations for July anticipating another great weekend of hiking and playing golf. Save the golf course.

To the Friends of Fort Ridgely: Please mention these points when arguing your case with the DNR.
The mission statement of the DNR reads:
"Our mission is to work with citizens to conserve and manage the state's natural resources, to provide outdoor recreation opportunities, and to provide for commercial uses of natural resources in a way that creates a sustainable quality of life."
It seems to me like that mission statement practically describes the very purpose of a golf course, commercially using natural resources to provide outdoor recreation.
Also, if they try to bring up their "it's not natural" argument, just mention the man-made, chlorinated swimming pools at Flandrau or Buffalo River. Or their decision to spend a ton of money paving the Fort's campground with asphalt. The abounding hypocrisy is staggering.
