Access to the Forres Police Public Counter

We are both perplexed and concerned to learn that the Forres Police Public Counter is open to the public at a different period of time than corresponding counters in Buckie and Nairn.

While the Forres counter is open only between 09.00 and 17.00 five days per week, the Buckie counter is open for longer , between 08.00 and 18.00 seven days per week, and the Nairn counter is open longer as well, between 07.00 and midnight seven days per week.

The shorter opening hours at Forres cannot be justified on the grounds of the difference in size of the area that it serves or of differences in its population, as these are broadly the same for all three counters.

We believe that both the public and the police service in Forres would be better served if the Forres Police Public Counter was open seven days per week the same as the similar service provided at Nairn and Buckie.

In general across the Highlands & Islands Argyll & Bute and Moray we believe that Police Public Counters should be open either 24/7 or at standard other times.

I am not against any efficiency savings if the service is maintained or improved. Don't understand how a location (Forres) with twice the population of nearby locations (Nairn and Buckie) can only be open five days per week when the smaller towns are open seven days per week.

I am signing this petition because I have information to give to the police in and I won't be able to get into the station on time

All Police Public Counters throughout rural Scotland should be open to the public for the same amount of regular hours seven days a week..

If FORRES closes the load will be greater on those counters that are kept open

I can see Forres being next for total closure, after all there is a brand new office at Nairn. There has been little strategic planning in the implementation of Police Scotland - those that have made the decisions are in the central belt with litlle or no understanding of the terrain, transport possibilities and how communities work here in the North East. They talked to local representatives I suspect, but they didn't hear. There was no doubt in my mind that change was required but am very disturbed by the manner in which it has been done.
