I truly hope that our local elected council is not misusing OUR funds. These people are our friends and neighbours. Is there no end to the corruption in the government.

Yes I do support your petition for a forensic audit. But had hoped my trust in the Richmond County Management & Counsel would continue and grow; and the right decision would come from them. After all we voted them in and put our Trust in them to represent us and act as role models for future generations..So hopefully they will Do Right by the citizens of Richmond County and clear the air once and for All!

I tend to think about an issue before forming an opinion. I must say in this case, something smells fishy in the Municipality. I’ve watched the televised Council meeting (Dec 14/15) and noticed that 2 of the 5 councillors (that I’m aware of) are of suspect in voting “no” to conducting a further financial investigation. Councillor Steve Sampson, Warden in 2012/13 and 2013/14, was one of the primary users of the credit cards (part of the period that some residents are requesting FOIPOP financial information on). And, Councillor Alvin Martell’s wife works for the firm (Grant Thorton) who presented the audit findings. Also, Martell’s son is the Director of Finance for the Municipality. Councillor Martell should have declared a conflict of interest for both reasons.
I’d rather incur the cost of a financial investigation (forensic audit) and have any guilty management staff and council member pay back taxpayers dollars and prevent future abuse.

Please don’t be offended by me signing in anonymously. In a small place many people have their own reasons to remain anonymous. I am impressed by the fact that there are so many concerned citizens in the county in short period of time. Good for you!!!
There is obviously misuse of our tax dollars as indicated by the 20 red flags indicated in the municipal audit. Contrary to what the 5 councillors who voted against a forensic think, like you, I believe that cash bar charges, liquor store charges, personal hotel charges, double dipping for meals, etc. ARE red flags. That’s why the auditors included them in the audit. Nice work Grant Thornton; it’s great to see someone is looking out for our best interests.
HELLLOOOOOO you 5 cover up artists!!! What were you thinking??? You must have been thinking that the people of Richmond County are stupid and that if you just said the audit was good that we would believe you, SORRY, no go on both accounts!!!
My question is who is spending our tax dollars like they are entitled to it? It is quite pathetic that the same people who are abusing our hard earned dollars are charging tax payers $1600 to get Freedom of Information (FOIPOP) on the County’s credit card receipts. Which begs the question, where does that money go or who gets to spend it at the liquor store? And more importantly, is the person providing the FOIPOP information the same person who is abusing the taxpayer’s money in the first place? In other words, IS THE FOX GUARDING THE HEN HOUSE???

Hummmm politicians seem to forget that taxpayers money is just that. Not a windfall for anyone else....Transparency by showing all the documents should be mandatory not if they want to show them...Duh.....Politicians are there because the people but them in power not to abuse their power in any way...
If they have nothing to hide then its a matter of just showing proof that everything is above board....

I'm signing this petition to support an audit because, as a former municipal councillor, I believe once a question of any irregularities dealing with finances is presented, only an audit will reveal the true answers.

In any organization, transparency is vital. The trust of the community that voted these people in, is also vital, and not to much to ask.

I do not know if there has been any intentional misuse of taxpayer money but a forensic audit would expose the good spending practices we need to celebrate, those that could be improved and those that ought never to be repeated.....in my opinion this information is essential to the work of all Municipality of Richmond Councillors and its CAO. Therefore, I signed a petition requesting such an audit.
