I'd urge the current government to reconsider their stance on allowing foreign drivers to use our roads without sitting a proper NZ drivers license - I've had two people I admire dearly now have a close call with drivers who simply don't understand basic use of a motor vehicle on our roads, and I'm grateful beyond belief they both survived. If I'm able to travel to the Cooks ( for example ) or China ( another example ) I'm expected to sit a driving test that suits their roads and I expect, in return, they'd be required to do the same. Please - let sanity prevail. It's supremely arrogant of the current government to ignore this.

If something is not done very soon no one in Auckland will drive on the left, choosing to drive in the right lane of all dual carriage ways and motorways, even when the left lanes are completely empty because of the large numbers setting the new norm. Especially on the North Shore. When these drivers venture further onto our unmarked roads they will do what is normal for them, drive on the right killing our innocent family members. I have driven a number of long journeys through Europe and it's very hard to remember what side to stay on. Please start an Ad campaign reminding all to simply STAY LEFT, unless passing a slower vehicle or preparing to turn right.

For the sake of the wellbeing of our friends and families it is 100% necessary to require foreign visitors who wish to drive in NZ to sit a full license test before they set out on the road. I don't think this would affect the number of travelers coming to NZ, but rather, it would enhance their experiences by keeping themselves and other road users safe!

I agree 100% with this petition, I have tried to get a Chinese driver's license, in China all candidates must through the driving school to do the driving test, but remember there are thousands driving school in China. Then lets talk about the test in China, the driving test is divided into four parts, and each part is very easy, and also you will have 2 chances for each test on the same day. The first part of the test is a theory with 100 multiple choice questions, get 90 will pass the test. The second part is doing car park and start at a slope in specified place. Does this part sound very challenging? But don't worry, your driving school will have an exactly same training place with the test place, and coaches will tell you the mode was to pass the test, everything is fixed, and no any special circumstances. Next, part three is driving on the road!!! wow, it sounds more difficult than part two. You will be practice for the test in a straight and closed road, and this part will test you: stop at the red light, try to slow down when u drive near the school or bus station, but not the real school, when u do ur test there will have a speaker in the test car, and it will play " the front has a school" at this time u just need to slow down make sure that computer can get that signal from the car break then u will pass this one. Oh did I say that test three will also on a closed road or a light traffic road, and also the test three will only use 10-15minutes!!!!! Then u can book ur final part of driver's license test -- another theory test....and also the multiple choice questions!!! For example of this test, it will show u a video, in this video there has a vehicle with no plate and driver will not wearing the seat belts, then ask u what is the incorrect in this video.... And when u pass this part, "congratulations" u will have a Chinese driver's license, and of cause when you get ur driver's license, you must have no any road experience, and have driving alone on a

I agree 100% with this petition, the law needs to be changed for Foreign drivers who drive on the opposite side of the road to our country.

I 100% agree more, I had to get a licence to drive in Saudi Arabia, so why shouldn't visitors to our country do the same. Please note this paragraph from Chinese law "Although foreigners who have obtained their driving license at home can get their temporary driving license in China without having to take related tests, they need to attend lessons to study Chinese road safety regulations, before they can drive in China. And they can only drive small cars or automatic-gear cars."
