Should be for any length of visa. I drove tour buses for Chinese market here for 5 years and they buy the licenses when they get here. Ask any tour guide that lives here, they will admit it.

I drive through a part of Auckland that is high Asian area. Not being racist at all but some of the very bad driving I see daily is mind blowing from this sector. Especially if you are coming from a country that drives on the other side of the road you should at least be made to have a few professional lessons in this country. If I was going overseas where driving was opposite side of road to here I would have a lesson or two just for piece of mind

Getting foreign tourists to do driving test before allowing them on the road is essential - I'm Chinese who lives in NZ.

Driving is a privilege, not a right. Safety first - oh, and being able to read and understand the road code and signs should be compulsory!!
