Foreign drivers to sit New Zealand Drivers Licence test

This has to happen to many New Zealand family's being destroyed by this.

I reported a car of tourists just off the ferry in wellington for driving over the centre line and nearly crashing in the terrace tunnel - followed them to Plimmerton until police stopped them. They drove very badly all the way. The police chatted to them and let them go. I was totally horrified that they were allowed to keep driving and risk lives on there way to Taupo. We definitely need to change law and check driving experience of all tourists.

Make the rental companies liable for any accident

If I was the Minister in charge in government and am aware that any person from China ( or any country with the same crazy practice ) can come to NZ and drive on our roads , having been given a licence to drive, without no proper testing of ability to drive, I as the Minister would do something about the issue NOW. I certainly hope your petition reaches its goal, all the best .

We take a risk every day here in South Canterbury when we drive, it is absolutely dangerous with the tourists here and should be controlled.

Driving test may help, but they may still lapse into driving on the right and checking to the left instead of right at give way and stop signs and crossing the road on foot, it is instinctive.

This is not the first time this has happened,time for a change.act now.

History proves and says a change is an absolute must.

Is there evidence that when NZers drive in Europe do they cause accidents as we drive on the 'other side' of the road? Why is it Asian drivers are known for bad behaviour on NZ roads.

Not all foreign driver. But ones who have insufficient driving experience

Overseas drivers here from many countries drive on the other side at home coming to Nz is a recipe for disaster and we have seen them cross the centre line many time we need change to protect us and our families scary stuff at the moment

Curretly there are way too many incompetant drivers allowed to drive on our roads. Some foreigners arrive on our shores with foreign "drivers licences" that have been purchased, with no test of that persons competancy, yet these people are permitted to drive on our roads. Some of these people may have never driven a vehicle before they arrive in NZ.

The Government must take positive steps asap to set up a system which ensures that only competent drivers are allowed on our roads. They must also ensure that the legal system deals with those who are causing the carnage on our roads in a consistent and appropriately punitive manner!

Tourists should definitely be tested before being allowed to drive on our roads

Especially important when tourists are either inexperienced drivers generally or come from a country that drives on the opposite side of the road to NZ.
