It's long over due. There needs to be strict rules on foreign drivers as they cause a lot of accidents and deaths. I don't want this to happen to my family or my child.

I agree with you Mr Middleton, I fear every day my lovely son is on the Road. I can cope with the loss of my husband and my Dad, but to lose you son must be the hardest and unbearable part of life.

My heart breaks for you.
My son ran in front of a milk tanker when he was 2 and got hit but survived.
U can google his name jesse eide.
He's 17 now and has epilepsy but is otherwise fine .
He doesn't have his licence yet and doesn't drive.
I dread the day he does and has something happen to him like your dear son.
I too read the paper another killed and I too know what that feels like but sadly I have my lovely son.
I hope this petition is taken seriously.

This should have been compulsory a long time ago. So many injuries and deaths.

About time. Enough is enough. Sort it out, Govt. before citizens take matters into their own hands and vent their frustration on the drivers themselves. It's gotten to the stage that whenever possible, I drive in the wee hours of the morning while the foreign idiots are asleep.

Simmons Bridges needs to get off his bum and do something about the people getting killed on our roads here in New Zealand. I live off state highway 2 in Bay Of Plenty and every day I hear that dam siren going, to call for ambulance , police etc. mostly due to Road accidents. I have never known so many deaths on roads, and people killed due to car accidents and the like here in NZ. Per capita we are the worst in The world.
Never mind about all the money you spend on cycle ways Mr. Bridges, that a lot don't get much use, spend that money on preventing less car accidents on our roads.
We have been waiting for a bye pass where I live for yrs. but nothing is done. My husband and I, along with many others living here, take our lives into our hands every time we venture onto the Highway, be it in our car or by foot.
My heart bleeds for all those little children and families that have been killed on our roads.
Let's hope that we see some action In The near future.
My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones on our roads and there is plenty of them, and if nothing is done soon there will be a hell of a lot more.
I agree wholeheartedly to have visitors to our country being tested . Along with our own idiots on our roads.
In my view only.

Any person driving on NZ roads need to pass the test or at least do a defensive driving course. Our roads are different to elsewhere.

We also have good friends who also lost their son on his motorbike in the South Island due to a Chinese tourist's lack of knowledge of NZ driving conditions

They have no idea of nz road conditions and should not be able to drive without being tested. They are a menace and if nothing is done newzealanders will keep dying.

Foreign drivers need to sit a NZ licence!!! In saying that, came across a couple of asian people who were driving and they were not adhering to our laws of driving, even though we stopped them and asked them if they had NZ licences, which they said yes, so asked them if they had read the road code, as to which they said yes, so we told them to yet again go back and double read, even triple read the road code as they were so slow and when pulled over, did not pull over in a safe manner to not risk an accident to other drivers behind them or coming from the other direction

My husband had his ute written off by a Chinese National who had only been in NZ for less that 12 hours, he said he spoke 'no English' yet he could hire a car and drive it on our highways?? This law needs to change.

I wholeheartedly agree that tourists should be required to sit a FULL drivers licence test BEFORE being allowed to drive in New Zealand.
