Foreign drivers to sit New Zealand Drivers Licence test

I totally agree, foreign driver's should have a legal NZ licence if living here for more than 3months.

In memory of Deno! who was killed the same way on the 25.11.2012. Laws should have been changed back then so that Rhys would still be here with his family. It's simple - change the law or we will change the government.

Should prove they have had a driver's license for a minimum 2yrs and a road safety test before being able to drive on our roads.

I believe that any visitor staying more than 3m should have to pass a nz driving test, both written and practical. Maybe this could be run as an add on service by hire companies, conditional to allow vehicle hire. A registered driving instructor could be employed to check ALL visitors are safe to drive on nz roads before handinb over the vehicle keys. Obviously, the cost should be built in or charged to the driver

yes i agree that foreigners should sit a test as there as been too many accidents & unnecessary deaths.

How many innocent people have to die on our roads at the hands of incompetent foreign drivers, before the Government takes the appropriate steps to stop the carnage?

We as NewZealands have to prove we are capable and able to drive on NewZealand roads so 100% believe foreigners should be required to do the same. Its time to make a change!

Disgusted & angered by Govts. & immigration laissez-faire attitude to visitors & tourists driving tests & licence standards.

There must be some economic pressure from either the tourism sector or immigration because how many times do we see foreign tourists in the news having killed NZers on our roads , its bloody crazy that nothing is getting done , I've seen it first hand whilst on holiday in the south Island , Asian tourist on the wrong side of the road , STOP THIS STUPIDITY NOW and help protect us on our roads

Foreign drivers should clearly demonstrate they can control a vehicle in traffic

New Zealanders have to prove to New Zealand authorities they are competent to drive in New Zealand. Visitors to this country should have to do the same before they are allowed to drive. There are plenty of other forms of transport they can use in the meantime.

It's a 'no brainer'. All road users should prove competence before being allowed to participate in traffic. That would have to include foreigners.

This govt doesn't want to know. There have been petitions before. Nothing will change until someone in govt faces your pain.

I am a Motorbike rider and have experienced the very bad driving of foreign nationals while riding my bike. Our citizens need to be protected.

Lost my brother 15years ago on bike.. It's still tough sometimes. I feel for you all. Gone from your sight but never from your heart. Go well.

Typical of our govts. Sell us out for the mighty dollar, or yuan. No accountability.
