New Zealand justice system needs a overhaul, judges who make these decisions and let foreign drivers off lightly need to removed and replaced with people who live in the real world.

Hopefully with all this support we can get something out of it. Thinking of the Middleton family and all the other families who have lost someone in the same way. I'm so sorry for their loss. Rhys was a lovely guy!

Every person who kills another on the roads should be jailed regardless of ethnicity, visa or residency status. Similarly, every person who is convicted of a crime should receive the same judgment and foreingners should also have to contribute substantially to the costs of imprisonment. Further it is wrong that non-residents who commit drug crimes are jailed but the woman who killed this young man escaped scot-free.

The tourist need to be educated on how to drive NZ roads. Licences need to be reviewed more closely.

The rental car companies are making money out of these people... they need to have a comprehensive practical driving test for drivers renting there vehicles. If not they should hold some responsibility for hiring a killing machine. As a farmer, we are responsible for everyone who enters our place... why not them?

Totally agree and it's something I've long called for, in fact ALL overseas visitors SHOULD be required to sit a basic exam to get behind the wheel of a car to ensure they at least know basic road rules and which side of the road to be on!

Totally agree.... Being a motorcyclist and having ridden around the South Island many times l have had many very close calls by foreign drivers on the wrong side of the road or they've just stopped in the middle of the road to take photos
