Foreign drivers to sit New Zealand Drivers Licence test

Obligate all foreign drivers and migrants to gain a NZ Driver's License if they drive here.

I fully support this petition. I have been concerning about this over-friendly New Zealand regulation for ages. In a country like China most drivers don't give way at all!!!

Tourists from right-hand-drive countries obviously need less stringent safeguards; but country of residence does need to be assessed for statistical competence levels of drivers - perhaps a random spot practical driving test if hiring a car would weed out a few of the more shocking ones.

There are too many of these accidents

I sign this cuz I don't wanna see or read any other car accidents that relate to Chinese tourists. It's just sad to see so many lives gone due to reckless drivings, or tourists drivers who overestimate their driving skills in NZ. I have got my driving license back home, in Xiamen, Fujian. To get a driving license in my province costs a lot of money, however, you don't get the proper training at all. One coach is designated with at least ten students. You may wait three hrs just to get a touch of the steering wheel. Holding a Chinese driving license only means you are able to drive in a simulated road scene. That is all. For those who's got car to practice often would be a different case. But overall, young Chinese drivers, especially these come to NZ with a working holiday visas, are mostly new drivers. They barely have any driving experience in China. NZ has totally different driving rules and narrower roads, which make it so much harder for Chinese new drivers to get use to it. Meanwhile, those with years of driving experience, we call them veterans back home. They just underestimate the danger hides beyond the typical 'empty' and 'straight' NZ roads. It is definitely necessary n urgent for the NZ gvnt to make it happen NOW. I will not drive on NZ roads before I get a NZ full driving license.

I'm a kiwi living in Colorado, in the state of Colorado I was required to get a liscense after only 1 month, seems like a perfectly reasonable request given the unique road conditions in NZ

I particularly hope we target those countries with low driving standards/history of bad drivers.

I used to teach the Chinese who were proud of buying a car yet had NEVER driven before the purchase!

I was almost killed by one last week who was on the wrong side of the road in a 100km zone.
