Foreign drivers to sit New Zealand Drivers Licence test

Liveing in te puke we encounter asian drivers daily and wonder how they ever got a license

This is long overdue

Stop pandering to the freakin Chinese!!!

A change is overdue. At present an overseas visitor is given the keys to their hired campervan / car without any basic road rule instruction. It's not good enough.

No allowances our safety is more important than sights being seen!!! Vehicles in the hands of inexperienced drivers are more dangerous than a toddler with a loaded gun!!!

You have my support.

This is a no brainer , we need this kind of testing to keep our roads safe for New Zealand locals...

tourists should be made to complete a competency test before we allow them to drive on our roads

I believe that all drivers here for any length of time should be required to prove their driving competence and knowledge of our road rules.

I live in Aus but lived in NZ for 20 yrs and I think it should be law in any country.

I agree totally with this petition. We must save as many lives as we can, and is time to start doing something about it. And imagine how foreigners must feel when they cause an accident. Some say more of our drivers cause accidents but that is no reason not to do anything about it!

I fully agree with Winstone that if it good enough for other countries to expect NZers to drive to their rules then tourists should respect our rules and conditions.

All NZ drivers should be supporting this - good on NZ First for their support.

Too many people are being hurt because tourist don't know our road code.

I agree with this but don't we think that foreign drivers here on holiday should be tested too? I'm sure there have been accidents involving foreign drivers who are here on holiday, which would be less than the three months mentioned. The Asian drivers in particular are known to be bad drivers on our roads.

As well as a test I think they should also be issued with a sticker to put on the dashboard saying/picturing KEEP LEFT. All car hire companies could put this on as mandatory.

I support this petition because I believe foreign drivers driving on NZ roads without knowledge of our road rules and road conditions is ridiculous. It has and does put many people at risk and costs lives in many cases.

Should have been done long ago. Too many people are dying from accidents caused from drivers on the wrong side of the road.
