I live in Te Anau, a popular tourist destination. In the last 18 months I've had about 6-7 rental cars and vans come at me on the wrong side of the road. 1 on the open road and I had to swerve onto the other side of the road so I didn't get hit at 100km/h, a rental jucy van coming up a hill towards me on the wrong side of the road. Then today in the space of TWO hours on my way to work and back, three vehicles trying to pull into my work car pack coming from the wrong side while I was driving out, one on the wrong side of the road coming towards me in the town centre, and on my way back to work one pulled RIGHT out in front of me when they should of given way??? Something NEEDS to be done. The licence process is strict for New Zealanders and bent for tourists. I feel so sorry for the families that have lost their loved ones in crashes caused by tourists, and the authorities that have to scrape them off the road. I'm scared to drive around my own town. Tourists that come into my work place ask how far Milford sound is, we say 2 and a half hours and drive carefully, they say we are lying because google maps says 1h. Let's keep us kiwis safe.

I am constantly shocked at the lack of basic understanding and road sense of what appear to be Chinese drivers in Auckland. It leads to frustrated and irrational actions by other drivers and has on more than one occasion endangered my safety personally. I wish the government to take action and ensure any driver in New Zealand understands the basics of road use.

I urge parliament to pass this bill for the safety of all concerned, foreign drivers included. To argue that we shouldn't pass this legislation on the basis that foreign drivers cause fewer accidents than New Zealanders is to cherry pick the evidence and overlooks the substantive issue of safety for all.

I support it totally!
According to the data of NZTA(http://www.transport.govt.nz/assets/Uploads/Research/Documents/Overseas-drivers2016.pdf),(chinese version:http://nzlife.nz/html/2017/game_0216/16686.html) the Chinese drivers are the top 1 involve the crash of overseas drivers in 2015, the main reason is failed to adjust to NZ rules,as u know ,many Chinese people's English are very poor. And I know that the website http://nzlife.nz,a Chinese website in NZ,have tried their best to do the correct thing. so they spent over 6 months on translating the roadcode to Chinese, and then have to spend another 6 months to wish to get the NZTA's authorization, but unfortunately,at the end NZTA replied to them:NO!
My God!
Are they waiting another crash involve their children?

I've only got my restricted, and yet even I see foreign drivers not following the road rules (they are going under the speed limit, not signalling, oblivious etc.) this needs a change.

Our 'Government' seems not to be interested in carrying out the most important duty it has to citizens--our safety and security. Its failure to do shows such contempt for New Zealanders . The sorrow and outrage of the families must be unbearable.

I have friends that have been killed and injured by foreign drivers. It has to stop!! pulled a cameraman over this week doing 70k on the main highway and told them they have to pull over and let traffic pass.

I am in Australia but am a kiwi.
I used to live in Napeir and have driven that road many times.
For an inexperienced driver NZ roads would be challenging.
A tragic preventable loss.
