Certainly practical 'screening-on-entry' is now essential. Overseas 'Licencing' can no longer be trusted here. HOWEVER, rather than a Full Test & LIcence, I would suggest :- An on-road "Proficiency Test"; a Temporary 'Learner' License, (restricted conditions); mandatory use of "L Plate", All costs covered by a substantial User-pays fee, This could even be included in a "Visitors Free Travel Package" which might include guide-maps, prepaid access to Sites, tourist/training info', litter bags etc.

restricted test for fully licensed foreign drivers before entering nz and full test before vehicle hireage. No licence for foreigners whom do not have full licence in country of birth, they should be made to go through the same driving process kiwis do. Aussies would be my exemption. Employment for kiwis overseas???

Yes they should have to sit a driving test I think any tourist who plans to drive in nz should sit a special licence to be able to drive and know our road rules

Roads in NZ are so different to roads overseas, which in many countries either do not have lanes at all, or have barriers along all motorways to prevent head-on crashes. Just because someone can drive in the United States or China does not mean that they can drive here. I also believe that there should be a 72 hour ban, from arrival, until you are allowed to drive a vehicle. This will help mitigate jetlag and confusion about driving on the left side of the road. Surely a tourist who is coming for a two month tour can handle having a few days' R&R in their arrival city? Or if not, well they could always catch a bus.

I agree so many lives lost due to overseas drivers not having experience on our roads

Drivers need to be aware of motorcycles.

Cars should not even be rented to visitors before they sit a test of their NZ road knowledge. Why are the powers that be allowing this danger on our roads?

Every day I encounter at least one tourist (not born here) driver that drives in a dangerous manner. It's too much and they must be stopped. They have no respect for our roads or people on them.
