I live in fear for my husbands life every time he has to drive to and from Queenstown from Invercargill as part of his job, He can do this several times a week. The things he has caught on the car cam I bought for him is insane. All of the instances have involved tourists, in rental cars.

Keep New Zealand roads safe and foreigners returning home safely too. I think it's something that needs action. It's very common and needs to be fixed asap before any more crashes happen that are classed as accidents because the right steps weren't put in place to start with.

I agree and I think it should be any tourist that wants to drive have to set a test not just 3 months or more...

I fully support this legislation, but believe that even shorter term visitors should need to pass a driving test of some description before they can drive in NZ or at the very least show they understand our driving laws

I completely agree with this petition. If any visitor from another country wants to come and visit New Zealand and they want to drive they should have to sit a driving test, especially if there from a country that drives on the opposite side of the road.

Have seen first hand how desperately this needs a law change. Asian int'l students with no experience can drive her even if they've just got their license in China - not only they have no clue about road rules, they don't even know how to drive!

Our neighbours are International students who drive haphazardly and blast their music in the early hours of the morning. Its long past time tourists who wish to drive are given a mandatory test to ensure the safety of other road users.

I'd add that we should legislate that anyone who buys a car in NZ must have an NZ driver's license, and that selling a car to an unlicensed party is a criminal offence.

Helped at an accident yesterday, where tourist Asians pulled out in front if motorbike with 2 people. They were very injured. Asians didn't even care

Definitely agree with this but also wonder if any overseas visitor driving on our roads should have to take the same test. Regardless of length of stay, it's just as dangerous if they're on our roads unlicenced and unaware of driving conditions in our country.

Drivers with foreign licences should know all Nz's road rules and be tested on it, the same as a kiwi would going for their licence. The government is not only putting the lives of kiwis at risk but tourists too. By letting them onto our roads (which are extremely different to overseas roads) with the knowledge that they might not know how to drive here safely. Especially in Nz's weather conditions and the different kind of rules we have. Yes some foreign drivers are coming here unprepared, maybe with or without the knowledge of our rules, the conditions of the roads, the environment in which we drive in and the understanding that without knowing the road code could end fatally. BUT we are letting it happen. We need to help these people be safe on our roads and make our people safe too. I understand that some foreign drives can drive very well, they may have studied up and can drive at the standard that Nz requires. But if there is the opportunity to save lives; whether it is a kiwis or a tourists' life, shouldn't we be doing anything we can to do just that?

To keep our road safe, make them sit the test!
