I feel that the rental car companies also should be held accountable. They take their $ , give them the keys. Their overseas license doesn't prove that they are capable of driving on N.Z. roads or our rules. A one hour video and basic test would help a little.

Well it's really convenient to drive with overseas license but if a small test is taken shouldn't be a big issue for experience driver to clear

Safer roads for all. Tourists must have to demonstrate an ability to drive safely on our roads. Issuing temporary licences will make the public feel safer.

Please help protect the lives of innocent New Zealand drivers killed or maimed by tourist not familiar with our roads. This is serious. Kowi deaths should not be the price we pay for a buoyant tourism industry.. Money or peoples lives - you decide.

They definitely need to sit a NZ drivers licence too many New Zealand families have been riped apart. This needs to stop NOW!

Every country has their own road rules. Some even drive on the opposite side of the road to us!!! Unless tourists are educated and tested here, how are they expected to follow our rules when they don't even know them?

Too many near misses with too much speed & a lot of confusion - stupid pointless mistakes are being made by tourists driving in NZ. Too many innocent lives have been lost! Things have to change. The extra information, online tests & videos at rental car offices is not enough. Practical tests must occur to protect everyone, tourists as well. I would expect to do the same in any other country if I were to travel and drive there.

Please yes. My heavily pregnant daughter and husband missed a head-on by less than a metre at the weekend by tourists in a rental, passing on a narrow bridge in a 100km zone. I can only imagine the devastation caused to families whose loved ones have been killed.

PLEASE take this problem seriously and implement a driving test for tourist drivers. Seen near head ons multiple times over rhe last 5 years on South Island roads especially.
