I am confronted daily with appalling driving but none of it is as dangerous as the erratic, unpredictable and singularly unaware nature of certain foreign visitors.

This needs to happen for the safety of all who use our roads in NZ. I have had whanau involved with tourist driving 6 feb 2017 seriously injured who will require months of ongoing treatment recovery and rehabilitation.

They should be sitting a test, even a min half day test to drive on our roads, Some appear like they have never really driven before even though they hold a License

8 years ago I was driving home on the Thames coast. I was 17 at the time. A German tourist was on the wrong side of the road and we had a head on. I was lucky to get away with minor injuries, broken nose, chipped all of my front teeth, lots of cuts and bruises, but unlucky to have suffered ptss ever since. Living on the coromandel is prime spot to watch their horrendous driving. Since driving again there have been many occasions where tourists have cut corners or been on my side of the road again and I've had to stop and get my dad to pick me up because the panic attacks are to intense and I can't continue driving. I got no apology and he went back to Germany the next day escaping the law. My life has never been the same since. They are lazy drivers. They think our roads are empty so they can drive on the wrong side for a while. All he told the police was that he stopped to watch the sunset and then pulled out on the wrong side. It was a lie. The sun had been up for hours and my dad had been driving about half an hour in front of me so it had only been a short while he was driving on the wrong side. I was in Queenstown a while ago and went to rent a car, the tourist in front of me was not asked a single question about if they knew how to drive or what the road rules and they hardly spoke to her. I couldn't believe it, my partner and I agreed that that is why this happening because car rentals don't care. Do you think they go home every night and think about all those keys they have given out and wonder if any of them have crashed? Do they ever think they could crash into their family? How are people so oblivious. It didn't help that John key was the tourist minister, he had been telling police to fine the people trying to stop the tourists not the tourist themselves. John key is to blame for all of this. I'm so glad he is gone.

PLEASE MAKE A CHANGE FOR THE SAFETY AND LIVES OF OTHER ROAD USER'S. ANYONE DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENCE IN NZ (CITIZEN, TOURIST etc) SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY LAW.
