We have got to stop this slaughter

This can only serve to make NZ roads safer, for residents and tourists alike. I've also witnessed some horrific driving by people in rental vehicles. From driving on the wrong side of the road completely or failing to understand or abide by our give-way system.

It's so blatantly obvious that there's a huge problem here, look at the fatalities on our roads with overseas visitors involved. Please please change the law before another one our kids are killed!

I agree that tourist need to learn how to drive on the nz roads. Asap!

I agree with this. I have witnessed many situations with rental vehicles and dangerous and erratic driving - particularly on the open roads.

Hi, people driving dangerously on foreign licences is a huge issue on Otago roads and a national issue generally. Both myself and my daughter have had to take evasive action to avoid rental cars in the Wanaka area over the last few months where the driver seems to have had little idea of how to drive on New Zealand roads. The solution is simple and fair - to have all drivers on our roads conform to a basic level of competency. This can be achieved by having all drivers on our roads hold a New Zealand drivers licence. Tourist movements can be easily and safely handled by bus services.

People should not allow to drive in nz if their county apply different drive rules . At least they need get a pass .

Foreigners, especially those drives on the right side, should pass a test and obtain a temporary kiwi lisence if they are intend to drive in the country. Too many innocent lives been killed, Transport of Safty please do something about it. We want our road to be safe!

Let's stop this tragic thing from ever happening again

I never used to worry about travel driving....do now though and only because i know my side of the road is no longer safe!!! Something must and has to be done to make our roads safe from 'guests' who kill.

So glad someone is doing a petition for this life and death matter. How many people, both tourists and NZers have to die before the government intervenes? Peoples children, mothers, fathers, partners are dying on NZ roads, billboard signs aren't cutting it parliament!

Too often when visiting NZ I have had to take evasive action, while driving, to avoid being hit by drivers who are usually 'Asian', but certainly no exclusively so.

Its a much need start on dealing with foreign drivers lack of driving skills coupled with NZ's ignorance of how challenging the NZ roads system is (steep/winding/narrow/perception of very few cars on the road in remoter areas etc).

whats the hold up .this should have long been taken care of.
