Foreign drivers to sit New Zealand Drivers Licence test

i think we should not allow foreign drivers to drive in our country.

I agree with this petition and support the people who have organised this petition.

So what about the 96% of NZ licence holders who cause fatalities. You cannot just focus on tourists or foreign drivers when Kiwis have an appealing track record but simply accept this and laugh about it. If a test does not help Kiwis how is it going to help tourists.

I fully support foreign driver to do compulsory tested before driving on NZ roads. They should be allowed to sit behind the wheels for a single day without license

I fully support this petition.foriegn drivers MUST BE TESTED!!. I was nearly killed in a head on crash with foreign driver. He side clipped my vehicle .He was killed in a crash with a vehicle behind mine, severely injuring that driver .He crossed the center line. I held his hand as he died.it haunts me. The Bay of Plenty is a dangerous region to drive in as its full of Tourists an Foreign seasonal orchard workers.Foreign drivers Must be tested for competency before they drive on our roads...whatever the cost and hassel . Our roads are unique and offer many hazards not often present in other nations. We need to protect our own people's lives (and tourists lives) rather than exclusively looking at conserving the tourism trade. Our lives matter more than that.

I agree that the foreigners must sit down for the drivers liscence test and must pass the test for the practical test. No matter which country they come from its is for safety of nz people and the foreigners as well.

I think this rule should apply all visitor visa holder. And a mandare of they understand english (read).

Especially if they come from countries who drive on the RHS of the road.

Common sense says this is a critical step in keeping us all safe - Kiwis and visitors.

My family were down in Queenstown from Auckland just last week. A driver in front of us was swerving all over the road, across the medium strip and off the road. He could not drive. He had no idea how to handle a corner, breaking at the wrong time etc. we figured he was either drunk or a foreign driver never been in a road like this before. It was on the road between Queenstown and Glenorchy and we sat on the horn trying to get him to pullover but he wouldn't. Finally we got to pass him. Young man and another young man in the passenger seat of Asian decent. The New Zealand government needs to urgently stop this!!! These young people were about to kill an on coming driver!! It's not their fault, they are legally allowed to come and attempt to drive on our narrow windy roads without any question or test and they will also have to live with it if they hurt anyone. We know better, our roads are tricky and our speed limit high considering. NOT if people are visiting for 3 months or longer! It needs to be Regardless of stay duration. A test /awareness must be required. What we saw was frightening, trying to stop a potential fatal accident, it was just lucky no one came around those corners when he was on the other side of the strip.

Yes!!! Make them sit a test!!!!! They need it they are so careless for our kiwis on the roads!!!!

Totally agree tourists are the worst drivers, there mistakes on our roads often mean a fatality, and normally its a kiwi that dies, from what I've read in the media
