I have witnessed a lot of tourist driving poorly on footpaths etc. I think it would be an exellent idea to put this law in place.

to the people who hire vehicles out to these people from overseas, they are also to blame for this. so take heed and ask questions.

I am a professional passenger vehicle driver. Every day you see dangerous and/or careless potentially fatal driving on our roads. My perception is the majority are in hired vehicles meaning all foreign drivers need to be educated on nz conditions, road rules and our driving expectations of road users. No. of near misses are never considered but from my observations we are just dodging a bullet regularly and which needs addressing.

Mid January i took my friend to Queenstown and wanaka so she didn't have to be on a bus all day... it was a day trip as we (my daughter and I) were returning to invercargill the same day. During this day we had 4 near head on collisions where others had crossed the centerline (2of which were solid yellow lines)! 3 of which were tourists. Plus more than a few other hairy/weird/confusing/ irritating moments care of tourists for the most part... please help me keep my daughter safe!

Keep our roads safe if I have to sit my license to drive on our roads so should everyone else who comes here and intends to drive regatdless of how long they intend to stay.
