You can't ride a scooter in Rarotonga without a driving test and the roads there are nowhere near as tricky to negotiate. All the best.

Definitely need to do something to stop this happening!! Seen way to many tourist driving on the wrong side of the road!!

We have very dangerous, unkempt and narrow roads in new Zealand. It's bloody foolish to let anyone who hasn't be trained to deal with them drive in the country. Bloody foolish and seriously irresponsible of our government.

Happy to support the petition, but I really don't think making foreign drivers sit a driving test will make any difference to the accident stats because it seems that most of the major accidents are occurring because the tourists are reverting back to what's familiar for them (in the absence of other visual clues to drive on the left hand side) - and no amount of testing is going to change that.

I agree foreign drivers should sit our driving test before they are allowed to drive, and they should have to show the licence before hiring a car here. This would help people dying on our roads.

Ive come across foreign drivers all over NZ (South Island being the worst) who are on the wrong side of the road or just all over the place and it's unbelievably dangerous. Something needs to be done

Not interested in the inconvenience or cost to visitors etc. We should kept safe from ALL incapable drivers. Don't want to jump through the hoops? Take the bus/train/bicycle. I want my freinds & family to get home safe.

I think rental companies need to take some responsibility as a large number of these drivers come in off long haul flights jump in a rental and drive for hours on road conditions they are unfamiliar with. But please, if everyone just slowed down , stopped very dangerous overtaking on blind bends etc and had a little more patience we might all safely get to our destination :-)

If we have to pass licence tests to drive on the road then why doesnt anyone else?

I agree that foreign drivers should have to sit a driving test before being aloud to drive on our roads.

Don't let another driver die due to others negligence and irresponsibility to ensure they know our road rules!!

Signing as we have travelled a few times in last few years and had a few near mosses with tourists

I'm not happy with there driving skills especially asian countries as i have experienced them stoping in the middle of the road photos read a map etc as i live in Rotorua there driving is terrible

Just keep them off the road in general if the pass it they still will drive this bad

I'm a fellow motorcycle rider and I endorse this not only for us riders but for all road users. We should all be able to get from A to B safely. If we NZDers need to be tested to drive on our roads then others must pass the same test. This is a step in the right direction.

This should apply to all international drivers except australians who wish to drive in new zealand.
