3 months is a sensible figure. We have to allow tourists and many like to to stay longer than a month.

We need to stand together and protect New Zealanders.

This is a must. I was a passenger involved in a car accident at 100km. Foreign driver idiotically pulled out from the center of the opposite side of the road to make a right turn onto one of the off roads of the major 100km straight. He was blaming a car coming "from behind him" for him having to make the maneuver (which was without doubt the most pathetic excuse under the sun). Everyone walked away fine, I only suffered a chest wall sprain from the seat belt. It could have ended a lot worse.

It makes no sense that someone can come from another country and it be assumed they know all our road rules and be confident. Even if it saves one life, isn't that what's important?

If kiwis have to know the road rules and show competence driving a vehicle, then so should visitors to our country.

Have had two collisions 50 feet away from our house this week. Both Asians. The 2nd accident the driver could not speak English. There definitely should be minimum requirement.

I think it needs to be done as soon as they hire a vehicle.

As a near accident victim of an Asian driver leaving the Army Museum without looking to his right once, I strongly believe that proof of any foreigner's ability to understand out road rules and proof that they are capable of driving on our roads safely is an absolute minimum.
