Foreign drivers to sit New Zealand Drivers Licence test

We see tourists causing many very near misses -going through stop signs, driving up the wrong side of the street, stopping when they shouldnt, going painfully slow, passing when they shouldnt & not passing when they can etc etc....

i live near a tourist attraction in dunedin and the amount of tourist that ive seen go through stop signs move lanes suddenly with no iddercation and stopping suddenly is unbeliveable

I am acutely aware that we may lose tourist $$ as a result but lives of our people must come first. For those who could afford to hire cars/campers in this country could instead use coach services etc instead AND a flow-on from this change inaway maybe more new businesses in this area...

We need to make our roads safer for all but particularly Kiwi drivers. So yes tourists should have to sit a license so we know the are capable of driving our roads... just as we have to too drive our roads. I personally would not go to a foreign country and drive unless I'd had some lessons or tested to ensure I was safe. Nothing worse than ending a holiday by killer Ng someone I'd say!

Any visitor to New Zealand who is issued with a visa for a period longer than 3 months, and who wishes to drive a vehicle while in the country, be required to sit a full New Zealand driver’s licence test and be issued with a New Zealand Driver’s Licence.

Stop the deaths and educate those who hve never driven in nz.

I do think every foreign driver needs to a driving test as I've seen to many crashes coursed by them!

They should sit it before they get here. Then we might stop some accidents

I think that all overseas visitors should sit a test before they can drive on our roads, we put our kids through a lot before they have the right to drive solo on our roads, so why should just anyone (possibly very inexperienced) drivers have the right to be in charge of a lethal weapon. One death is one too many and tortuous for the families involved. Greed is the cause and reason.

Come on you politicians, do something positive that we could remember you for. Less lunches, more reality..

I manage a Camp Site down the Queen Charlotte Sound. The road here is very windy & the large campervans can be very scary to come across on these roads especially when in most countrys they drive on the right.
