I would like to see any visitor that drives pass a standardised test upon hiring a vehicle. If we are to reduce the numbers of fatalities and injuries by visiting drivers then let's get it right the first time. Let's set the bar with an immediate impact not slowly wait for effect. Every life is precious, including the impact that it has on those that are left behind. Victims, drivers and families.

I don't think any visitor to NZ should be allowed to drive in NZ without sitting a full test. Why should they? The law needs to get much tougher with all bad drivers.

Be a chinese living at New Zealand, I totally support this petition. All foreign drivers must pass New Zealand test.

Minister of Transport, and Tauranga MP, Simon Bridges states in the NZ Herald ''I wouldn't want to lose that reciprocal privilege,''
What reciprocal privilege? You can only get a 3 month provisional license in China when holding a full license from another country. International licenses cannot be swapped for a Chinese License and you have to do pass the Chinese driving test to get one. If this petition goes through then it will be reciprocal.

New Zealand Government should be enforce foreign drivers to sit and pass the driving test before they can drive here

Lets not digress from the issue at hand. Some of you motorcyclists are your own worst enemies. We all, as drivers, need to be aware of what is happening around us, no matter what we are driving and act accordingly to avoid such situations. No one wants a death on their conscience and I'm sure no one is happy about those responsible for the death of any motorist being 'let off'.

Agree with the statement ... but would also like to see any foreign driver for ANY period of time even a rental for two weeks must pass a test before being allowed to drive on our roads.

They definitely need to learn our road rules and sit license. A foreigner hit my husband while he was riding his bike/ She got 12 months loss of licience and defence course. My husband and I got life. He has a head injury and can not work or drive I have to do a lot for him and work as well. It has changed our lives so much just when we should have been starting to enjoy life. He was very passionate about his job serving his comminuty as a fire fighter. Her life carries on and I have to work my butt off to make ends meet
