Foreign drivers to sit New Zealand Drivers Licence test

Every day I see examples of appalling driving by visitors from overseas. Action needs to be taken now to prevent more deaths.

Also recommend a basic test for visiting drivers

In some countries, people who can't drive can pay a bribe for a licence, then come here and drive. Or conditions and road rules are different. We don't let Kiwis drive without passing their test here, don't let foreigners - it's not safe to.

I am signing this because I strongly believe another cynical 'compromise' has been reached beyond the public eye, and against the public interest in this case. The second this week The killer has now escaped punishment here for taking a man's life and been scurried out of the country. This would never happen in China.

Bring it on far to many deaths.

I support any move towards solving this problem. Queenstown is a nightmare and we avoid accidents everyday.the toll would be higher if we were not so careful everytime we get in our cars.

Make our roads safer for all users.

All overseas drivers to New Zealand should sit drivers test prior to driving especially those countries that drive on the opposite side of the road and non English speaking tourists

Terrible.

Absolute disgrace deportation could be effected before reduced sentence served. Immigration have too much power. They are a siloed fiefdom. Little effective ministerial responsibility on this occasion. Still, that is usual, no matter what the party nature of a coalition government. They are all somewhat useless. The driver has been slapped on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.

they just don't get the way we drive...we should not have to change to save our lives from tourists, they should learn to drive better

This needs to be done. My dear brother in law Michael & my Teresa sister & the rest of the family has had their lifes turned up side down due to this disgusting crime.

Definitley they should sit the test to get a NZ licence. there are far too many tragic deaths on the road, caused by visitors to our country.

As a Malaysian chinese immigrant myself, I too think there are too many bad foreign drivers. In particular, the Chinese! :)
