Absolutely tourists and foreign national should sit a competency test to drive on our roads, bloody kiwis have trouble and we all grew up navigating our roads, I've been driving cars since I was 15 , riding motorcycles 31 years and driving big rigs over 20 years, theres not much I havent seen. So when they pay to take the test with a licence, they can then go and hire or buy, a vehicle. Dont like it, use public transport.

I hope this goes through, sick and tired of going to hospitals and funerals where we lose our loved ones to their inadequate understanding of our road rules, so sorry does not cut it

After my car accident yesterday involving a foreign driver this needs to be taken more seriously!
have been living in Australia where both drug and alcohol testing work well. Frequent blitzs where I was living where every driver tested going in the one direction.

The politicians and many others blame the roads, there is nothing wrong with our roads. Those who complain about our roads obviously cannot drive correctly or they wouldn't complain. Tell me who is supposed to CONTROL the VEHICLE, OR AT LEAST TRY TO. TELL ME. Who controls a big truck unit, car coach, motorcycle, bicycle, pedal car. YOU BEHIND THE WHEEL.

2 of my cousins were killed not there fault but thean got to leave our country because his dad is high up in the court system!!! What about hmthere young families that have been left behind?
All overseas people driving on our roads need to obtain a NZ drivers license. Make them pay more than what NZers have to pay
