PETITION in regard to forced use of personal webcam and audio during testing
To the teachers of NBCC and the NBCC Business Department.
We, the undersigned students, are against the forced use of personal webcam and audio features during testing. We feel that mandatory use of webcam and audio features during testing, especially the 360-scan feature, is a breach of privacy. These features were never stipulated in the course outlines and we believe that the Lockdown Browser prevents cheating without encroaching on a student’s right to privacy. As such, we recommend the following action:
- Immediate end of mandatory use of webcam and audio features for testing
- Evaluation of alternatives, which include input from the business students of NBCC

The administration at NBCC continues to ignore our concerns while they hide behind these invasive spying tools. I am currently reaching out to student advocacy groups to expose this total disregard for our privacy in our own homes. They think they can force us to submit to these intrusive surveillance tactics but they are wrong.

The administration at NBCC is officially feeling the pressure now that our numbers are exploding. They thought they could strip away our privacy without us fighting back but this momentum proves they were dead wrong.

During a recorded a test, I feel stressed about where I can look. After reading a question, I want to think about my answer and I don’t know if I can look up, to the right or to the left for a while. It makes me loose my attention.
Online school is stressing enough, the usage of webcams not only derails students focus during a test, but further adds on to the stress.
Invasion of privacy and does not recognize students who may not have the technological advancements to meet the requirements.
I am not comfortable to use the webcam and audio because I’m living with my friends and they make a lot of noise...
I am not in agreement with my privacy being invaded. I was not advised of this nor did I agree to it. This is unacceptable!

Having a camera and audio on me adds to the stress and anxiety of doing tests at home, I think the lockdown browser is more than enough to have students not cheat.
