In the 14 years we have called this neighbourhood our home the traffic patterns have shifted considerably, both in volume and in the high proportion of construction vehicles that barrel down this road as if it were a highway. We have lost a family pet that was run down by a dump truck. We walk regularly from our home to /around Lost Lake and within this route there are portions of Lost Lake Rd that are extremely dangerous, with no shoulder to walk upon, on a downhill grade and bend/blind spot in the road.
There has been a notable shift in the demographic within our community and we are delighted to see the addition of young families. And yet we worry about the safety of their children.

I have seen my neighbours walking with their small children on this road and it absolutely terrifies me for their safety. i have seen several vehicles on a daily basis step full throttle on the gas heading east from Dewar with no regard to public safety. At least with a sidewalk or enlarged shoulder pedestrians and cyclists are not rolling the dice on serious injury,

I share these same concerns for the safety of my children walking to school, to their friends or to the parks. We walk everyday to school and back, and to the surrounding neighbourhoods. I do not feel safe enough for them to walk alone even though they are taught proper care and alterness. I am always having to walk with them. Even I don't feel safe enough walking by myself on these busy roads. And I take every precautions when I do having been hit by car as a pedestrian.

Take notice, council, and others. These are basic needs of a neighbourhood and community. Though safety is cited frequently as the concern, and it is the most pressing, addressing infrastructure design issues that prevent and discourage walkable neighbourhoods that are so prevalent in Nanaimo goes far beyond the safety of our kids while they’re in elementary school.

I would like to see some sidewalks and maybe speed bumps to slow traffic down around on lost lake(around Dewar)

Previously lived on Lost Lake Rd. and witnessed some serious accidents right in front of our house due to speeding. Something needs to be done before someone is killed. This is the main reason we moved.

After 40 years, I thought we would eventually get sidewalks not open pit mining, months long hammering and rock removal—-no more development in the area until sidewalks ( not just a white line)!

Vehicle traffic on this road is too fast. My grandchildren live here and I want to see them continue to live. There aren't even sidewalks to walk on for more safety. It's two-fold. Stop lights or speed bumps plus sidewalks.

I would love to see a lit or raised crosswalk at the Alta Vista turn off because there is no sidewalk to Rutherford on the Alta Vista side and children need to cross the road here to walk to and from Randerson Ridge Elementary. Cars come flying down the hill from Lost Lake making it very dangerous for people to cross.
