For Backyard Chickens in Whispering Pines

Wholeheartedly support...cannot believe this is even up for debate. A common sense, no brainer!!

I was first opposed to chickens I am still worried about some neighbors not taking care of their fowl but with the increase in egg prices I’m for it now!

I think the ETJ should be done away with altogether. I have an appeal hearing coming up to allow above ground pools and decks be allowed in the ETJ please come and voice your opinion as yes, or next it will be something that you would love to have on your own property and aren’t allowed to.

This is common sense.

Would love to have a couple of chickens for our backyard. Not only for the egg supply, learning opportunities for my kids, and soil fertilization but because they eat mosquitoes! We miss having chickens and hope WP will open the door to a limited number of hens. No roosters.

I have 3 backyard chickens for 4 years. Not only are they superbly taken care of and are very healthy, they provide my family and friends with wonderful delicious, nutritional eggs. They make very little noise and help with weed andinswct control. They are contained in a fenced in area. They should be allowed within a reasonable number and no roosters!

So many more reasons to have a few chickens than not. •teach our children about sustainable living •some of earths best fertilizer •BUG CONTROL •eggs of course Just to name a few

Female chickens pose no treat to anyone and many neighbors have no idea that they're living next to chickens.

We just moved to the area and would love to have chickens!

Our household members are not registered voters in Whispering Pines due to active duty military service, claiming Tennessee as our home of record and as registered voters for the state.

reasonable numbers of backyard poultry (minus roosters) are in no way a nuisance and are beneficial to the environment and should be allowed within the village limits

For instance, the city of Raleigh allows residents to own 6 female chickens The much more rural setting in Whipering Pines NC should be as open minded.as most other places in NC. I read the article in the recent Pitch and was disappointed that casual, under-reserched comments swayed the vote on the the request for a chicken ordinance that allows chickens.Please reconsider the decision !!!

Although I do not have the time to care for chickens myself, I see no reason to deny others that right. Chickens are wonderful pets that give back, in that they provide healthy protein, excellent manure for compost piles and they also eat ticks. All this with absolutely no danger or inconvenience to neighbors! How many pets can claim so many pros with no cons?

I'm sorry you felt the need to reply as anonymous. Those who wrote this petition really are interested in your objections. So far, all objections have actually been based to myths and it is an opportunity to educate people if we know their objections. As for noise, laying hens — at their loudest — have about the same decibel level as human conversation (60 to 70 decibels). Hens are so quiet that there have been cases of family flocks being kept for years without the next door neighbors knowing it. The noise level of a rooster’s crow is about the same as a barking dog; 90 decibels. However, roosters are not necessary for hens to lay eggs, so roosters can easily be banned in a backyard chicken ordinance.

Anonymous comments should not be allowed. Who's to say this person even lives in or around whispering pines. And I don't know where you're from but parts of whispering pines are country..

While I have no current interest in raising chickens, I see the benefits of raising one's own food and having control over one's own domain. I can see no harm in allowing chickens within reason .
