The city finally cracked and gave us the green light for Food Truck Thursdays. It took way too much pushback against those closed-minded council members to get this done. Enjoy the victory and let us make sure they actually follow through on these permits.

Sign this petition if you want to see FOOD TRUCKS in Downtown Athens on Thursdays, once a week, till 2:30 am! Let's be honest, we need more options for late night munchies other than Ubering (or drunk driving?) across town for a Big Mac... I mean the line for the hot dog stand on the street corner is outrageous these days. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Not to mention food trucks and other mobile retailers have proven to have a positive influence on local economies, driving traffic to downtown businesses from outside areas and thriving on talented entrepreneurs in unique cultures, such as Athens!
Lastly, it solves your significant other's favorite question... "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" Food trucks will create more options- you can enjoy a tasty crepe while bae chows down on tacos. Win-win for everyone.

We just hit 250 signatures and the city council can no longer ignore this. The bureaucracy in Athens is stalling because they fear competition for their brick and mortar buddies but we are not backing down until we get our late night options.

Diversity of dining options is a hallmark of Athens culture. Food trucks are carrying on the traditions of our beloved Hot Dog Man and JB's polish sausages with comeback sauce. Food trucks will add value to downtown Athens by complementing the brick-and-mortar restaurants, providing a quick alternative for people who don't have time for a sit-down meal. Say YES to food trucks!
Food trucks have proven to boost the local culture and economies of cities like Austin, TX, Greenville, SC, and Raleigh, NC, to name a few. Let's put Athens on that level. Holy Crepe is locally owned, pays local taxes and rent, and employs locals. Let them contribute.
Food trucks bring more people out to the downtown area - people who normally wouldn't be there. The recent food truck festival is evidence of this, the crowds were huge and filled with people who specifically came to eat at food trucks who wouldn't have been downtown otherwise. This helps business for all of Athens, and it's delicious awesome food.
It amazes me that this is even an issue. Food trucks work well in so many other cities and they definitely are a great addition to the culture of downtown. I'd like to think this city supports its local business owners and hope it will find a way to accommodate this proposal.
i work downtown and would love the option of picking up something fast and tasty. There are days where I can take a longer lunch and would choose a brick and mortar option. However, having the availability of food trucks would be a huge resource for the days I need to grab and go!

A vibrant food truck scene will ENHANCE business in downtown Athens, including for restaurant owners who can have their own trucks, not detract from it.
