In my Sophmore year of High School I had an assignment given by my health teacher- a food journal. We had to track what we ate , the calories, and how much we exercised in an app called "MyFitnessPal" the app used by fitness junkies and most commonly used by anorexics, bulimics, and orthorexics. We had to also use the app to enter our weight, height, age, and sex so it could calculate the amount of calories we needed daily. First of all, the app was 18+ so minors SHOULDN'T use it anyway, especially forced to by a teacher. The app also gave me a very low amount of calories; starvation low. I followed through with the assignment and it sparked my desire to be skinny, I fell into a deep hole and it spiraled out of control. 2 years later I found myself sitting in an eating disorder unit stuck in a wheelchair because I was so malnourished that my body couldn't support itself. I'm petitioning to have this assignment removed from the curriculum or drastically changed. I've had numerous girls and boys tell me the assignment caused them

To develop an eating disorder or sparked their old eating disorder. This assignment is dangerous, especially to insecure high schoolers. It NEEDS to be changed or taken alway. Please sign my petition to help the change happen

Reading through the experiences you have shared under this petition brings me right back to the darkest days of my recovery. It is heartbreaking to see how many of us were forced into the exact same trap by a school assignment meant to teach us about wellness. I am currently compiling these stories to present directly to the school board so they can no longer look away from the harm this curriculum causes.

Seeing the momentum behind this reminds me that I am not the only one who suffered because of a classroom assignment. It is powerful to know so many of you see the danger in these health trackers and want to protect other students from the same path I walked.

my health teacher made us do this too and it totally messed with my head for months. kids dont need to be tracking calories like that at this age.

From the looks of the app & the assignment, you either starve yourself or feel embarrassed to log your results. This is disgusting. I'm proud of you, and I'll sign anything like this
