The city council confirmed the deployment of new market subsidies for our neighborhood today. This success secures the fresh food infrastructure we requested. I will notify you once the implementation schedule becomes public to ensure the oversight remains consistent.

The treatment of predominantly colored neighborhoods (involving opportunities, resources, and more) is unjust compared to predominantly white neighborhoods and this inequality needs to be changed. By signing this petition you are advocating for fresh food markets in low income neighborhoods, while helping us bring awareness on the issue of being limited to a multitude of fast food places, grocery store chains with expired and/or wilted vegetables/fruit, and corner liquor stores. We would like better and healthier food options, while maintaining affordability.

Updates

May 22, 2019

I am currently organizing the data from our supporters to present as official documentation to the city council. We have secured a preliminary meeting with the zoning department to discuss the specific lack of fresh food retail in our district. Additional updates on the formal submission process will follow once the next phase of our research is finalized.
