To Lisa Dollinger (Communications/Media Relations) I am writing to you on behalf of all Fibromyalgia sufferers in regards to Dave Ryan, the morning show host at your radio station. On October 10th, Mr. Ryan put a comment on his Twitter account that has hurt and angered many. He stated that people who claim to have Fibromyalgia should be shot. He has since deleted part one of his "tweets", in which he begins, "People who need to be shot:...". There is a screenshot of his original tweets available at: http://img42.yfrog.com/i/mfp.jpg/ Though Dave claims this comment was a "joke", to those who suffer from Fibromyalgia and those who love them, it was hurtful, hateful, discriminatory, and only added to the pain and mental anguish we sufferers face on a daily basis. We are an already marginalized group of people, and Dave Ryan's comment is akin to a racial slur. We have tried to contact Mr. Ryan in the hopes of an apology or to recant his statement, and he has only resorted to threats and name-calling. Some of our supporters have tried to contact him via his radio show in an effort to communicate and they were refused access. Thus, we turn to you and ask that you assist us in this manner. We strongly believe that Dave Ryan needs to held accountable for his comment and his refusal to recant or apologize, in addition to his threats and name-calling when we only wanted an apology. Mr. Ryan has a wide audience of people to influence with his views. He is spreading prejudice and ignorance with his power, and we find this absolutely unacceptable. We demand that something be done to hold Dave Ryan accountable for his discriminatory and violent statements in a public stream.
