At Mount Macedon Primary School, we are proud of our growing commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse environment for all our students. As proud members of the school community, we believe raising a Pride flag alongside the Australian, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander flags would be a powerful testament to our values of inclusivity and acceptance. This small but meaningful gesture would provide visible affirmation of our commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Flying the Pride flag can be a meaningful way to demonstrate to our children and families that Mount Macedon Primary School values everyone equally. For students who identify as LGBTQIA+ or come from families that do, this gesture signals safety and acceptance. For all students, it is an opportunity to learn about respect, empathy, and the richness of diversity in our community.

Research and experience show that inclusive schools lead to better wellbeing and engagement for students, reduced bullying, and stronger connections between families and the school community. This move would align with the broader education priorities in Victoria and the Safe Schools Policy around equity and wellbeing.

We propose that the Pride flag be flown at our school to enhance our commitment to inclusivity and foster an environment where every student feels seen, heard, and accepted. This initiative would send a strong message to our students, families, and wider community that Mount Macedon Primary School embraces diversity and stands firmly against discrimination in any form.

We invite the school administration, parents, and local community to support this proposal. Your signature could help create a more inclusive and accepting space for all students at our beloved school. Please join us in advocating for this important change by signing this petition.

Visible inclusion matters and I cannot believe we have to still have this conversation.

As a former student and an out gay man it is a no brainer. I have become a useful member of the community because these issues aren’t a problem in our fabulous town

I support this initiative as a way to balance the scales, as lgbtqia+ people have been forced to be anonymous for so long. It’s a simple gesture to show respect.

Inclusivity is critical when you're the minority and feeling vulnerable. Such a small gesture of welcome & safety.

All children deserve a safe, caring and respectful school where they can thrive. Children only learn intolerance from adults
