REVISED Statement of Support for [UVA] Students to Engage in Peaceful Protests

As staunch supporters of a free society, we unequivocally support the right of college students to engage in peaceful protest without fear of police violence or intimidation. We recognize that protest is a fundamental component of democracy and a powerful tool for bringing about social change.

It is essential that students have the freedom to voice their concerns, advocate for their beliefs, and challenge the status quo without facing excessive force or aggression from law enforcement. We condemn any use of violence, intimidation, or repression against protesters, regardless of their ideology.

In standing up for the rights of college students to protest, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a campus environment that values diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Together, we can create positive change and build a better future for all. Our hearts ache for the people of Palestine and Israel, and we salute these brave young adults who are determined to be on the right side of history by calling for a stand down of the continued aggression of the Israeli military in Palestine.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many people have joined this effort since it began. This momentum belongs entirely to the individuals who felt moved to step forward and affirm these values. Thank you for showing me that we can look out for one another in such a powerful way.

Kids should be able to speak up without getting tear gassed. This is supposed to be a place to learn and grow, not a war zone.

FREE SPEECH MATTERS. Students are the future and their voices deserve to be heard even if people dont agree with them.

I support peaceful protest. My heart aches for the people suffering in Gaza, as my heart aches for those Israelis harmed/killed in October and for the hostage being held by Hamas.
