Absolute joke of a system. While we are at it, why not consider financial support for students on placements too. It's free labour and frankly should be illegal.

Third Years Education/Arts student, still awaiting placement. Was told almost a fortnight ago to reply to an email requesting feedback re: possible placement choices (one of which was dropping the Ed. degree altogether, an insulting proposal). Still haven't heard a response, and I do not expect to. Flinder's education department needs to seriously rethink their organisation and student allocations.

I am a first year Early Childhood student and I am studying hard for the best possible outcome in employment when I finish my degree. I require as much advantage in education from my degree as Flinders University can give me. Therefore this petition is very relevant to me which is why I have signed.

Another issue that arises from struggling to place students due to lack of places is that they then place students in centres etc that are not prepared to actually teach students and are not taking on students for the right reasons but count as a placement so apparently it's okay. Low quality placements are an issue as they're so desperate they will just place students anywhere.

Also an active search for placements in north eastern suburb areas would be of benefit for those of us who live that side of the city. I was lucky with my PEY2 placement but I am worried about PEY3 and PEY4.

With small children and having to pay for childcare and oshc whilst on placement. It ends up costing quite a lot of money for parents who are studying. For me up to $200 per day to go on placement. Highly unaffordable. Something needs to change

When I applied for education in 2009, ATAR was 80, so its dropped 10 points in 5ish years.

While I personally have been fortunate enough to have been placed, it angers and saddens me that my peers and fellow students have had to deal with this predicament. The knowledge that I will be one of so many graduates competing for employment upon graduation is distressing and anxiety inducing as well. This practice of accepting so many students in to the course is highly unethical and is clearly driven by greed and a desire for profit, and I am disappointed with Flinders University.

I just think it's ridiculous that they are taking on too many students for how many placements they have available. They think about there capacity rather than how much money they are getting.
