Asheville seems well on its way to be a city that seems to prioritize the 'needs' of non-residents or tourists over those who are trying to live and work here. Over 70 small businesses and organizations will be displaced if this project is approved. What kind of message is being sent if our city council votes in favor of the building being used to cater to tourists instead of our own citizens?

I’ve worked in hospitality and hotels for the last 8 years. I’ve came from a city with little hotels and seen beautiful buildings destroyed for new hotels. I don’t see the reason to have more hotels and lost land markers for it.

Our beautiful little city has been gentrified in an ugly cheap way, and we have lost control. Lets please take it back. We want our beautiful old buildings with the beautiful architecture that is left. We need better city planning ASAP, not more sell outs! Please keep the Flat Iron Building for businesses.

I fear Asheville is going to lose its creative, unique soul if the primary focus is catering to tourists. As the number of hotels increases, we lose affordable housing and business space for artists and local businesses. When we lose that, we lose what makes Asheville so special.

Many colorful and important business operate from this building. Save parking for businesses NOT hotels. Hotels belong outside of the downtown strip. Not on them taking up space and parking.

Don't come to Asheville knowing it's a music City and complain about loud and late music. You knew better. If you cared about Asheville culture you wouldn't support something that will force many local businesses out and make it harder to get a job when it is already hard to find jobs here.

We need to look at other options for preserving this beautiful, historic building that also preserves it for small businesses and local. Asheville DOES NOT need another hotel, especially one that will further displace local business.
