The sale of the Flatiron Building for a hotel is appalling. The building is an important community landmark and location for 70+ small businesses and organizations. The only people who would benefit from this turning into a hotel would be the hotel owner and the landlord - NOT the community. Isn't our city council supposed to work for Asheville's citizens?! Or are they all being bought by the prospective hotel owner? Please have the decency to oppose this ridiculousness and allow the Flatiron Building to continue to be a community resource.

More than 8,000 hotel rooms in Buncombe county and still 500 people are homeless any given night in Asheville. This is unacceptable. Not one more hotel!

We have enough hotels, already! The city's charm is its integration with people that live and work here. Stop being so greedy! Our infrastructure is groaning and from what I can see all this new tourist development isn't helping the roads or livability. No foresight!

Being a part of a true neighborhood is an important consideration in quality-of-life in downtown Asheville. When you walk out your front door, it’s nice to see people that you know, whether they are residents of nearby buildings, or employees of nearby businesses. These people are here every day, and have a long-term commitment to a quality environment. Hotel guests do not share this commitment, nor do they contribute to a sense of neighborhood.

I am a native of WNC and have seen all the changes over the last 40 years. Some good and some bad. Tourism keeps our economy going but no one is going to want to go downtown if it is nothing but hotels. Let's help keep the small businesses alive and accommodate those who want to live and work downtown and in the surrounding areas.

The local shops in this historic building are the EXACT reasons why tourists flock to have an ASHEVILLE experience. They have plenty of places to stay. Don't take this away from their experiences, and don't boot out your local small businesses to do so.

Converting the Flatiron building into a high end hotel benefits no one but the hoteliers. As a manager of a retail store downtown I hear plenty of tourists & conference attendees who tell me they are leaving early or just stopping through because hotels are too expensive, especially downtown. We need more locals downtown, which means a better decision is to create housing & host businesses that actually generate tax revenue for the city, not to a tourism fund.

Please stop changing Asheville into something it wasn't meant to be. We've lived in the area for 13 years and have seen the changes come mostly to line developer's pockets. Please don't turn Asheville into a huge metropolis, but keep it a charming City for all of us to love and enjoy for it's art, history, music and interesting local people. Enough hotels for tourists!

Stop ruining Asheville. Citizens are harmed by this turning into a hotel. The owner bought it many years ago for $440,000. He can sell it at market value if he does not want it as it was intended. He will make a huge profit just maybe not the $16,000,000 he wants. Quit screwing us city council
