Hotel development is a symptom of creating demand for this commodity. It's time to take action by changing the structure of the hotel occupancy tax. Until then, more hotels are on the way.

Displacing 70 small businesses for one person's profit is ridiculous and immoral. Sounds like the 1% get richer and the rest of us suffer, again. I don't believe one person getting rich is the 'only way' to dave the building. The loss of parking, the displacement of LOCAL businesses, and the total lack of need for YET ANOTHER hotel, makes this sound like a nightmare.

It is buildings like these that are at the core of the cultural fabric of Asheville. Displacing homegrown businesses will disrupt the very ethos and authenticity visitors are drawn to Asheville for in the first place. Tourists will come if the culture is there. Destroy Asheville's culture and not only will tourists not come, the very lifeblood of the city will be displaced for every leaving a shell of a city devoid of any cultural authenticity.
